Recovery Day…?

So I had a weird dream last night.  I went to the opera and missed the complimentary gourmet meal they were serving because I had to go to the bathroom.

We had a typhoon last night! It really wasn’t bad at all, in fact we went to dinner at one of our friends houses, finished off season 4 of Dexter (by the way, WOW! I cannot believe the way it ended!!!!!! Hurry up Season 5!!), and then drove home in the so-called typhoon.  I think the Americans were the only people on the island who were actually freaking out.  The Japanese people just keep going about their usual business. They didn’t even get the day off yesterday, for preparation, or the day off today, for recovery! Haha…I think the military freaks out over everything.  I can’t go grocery shopping because the day after a typhoon is recovery day and only the worker crews are allowed to go out so they can survey the damage.

Oh, speaking of Dexter, again…even though I haven’t spoke of him in the last 4 sentences…I had no idea that Michael C. Hall (Dexter) was married to Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter’s sister, Deb). How weird is that?! I know they are only acting as brother and sister, but they are so good at acting, that it makes me feel like they could be brother and sister in real life! Oh well, whatever works for them!

So I started my Religion class.  It’s actually not a survey of all the religions like I thought it would be.  It’s called Defending the Christian Faith, and we get to read Mere Christianity, and How Now Shall We Live.  Pretty exciting! The first week was basically taking everything back to the basics: we are born knowing the difference from right and wrong – even if we don’t know what those words mean, we all have some sense of a moral compass.  For instance, even if we had never met another soul in our lives, or had any education, we would all know to help a person if they would on fire, or hanging from the edge of a cliff.  Even if we choose not to help them, we all know that the right thing to do would have been to have helped that person. This obviously excludes people who are born with mental disabilities who can’t tell the difference, however, I believe that things like that are a result of sin. We haven’t got that far in the class, but mental disabilities, sickness, all of those bad things are a result of sin in the world.  I am really interested in what this class has to offer.  I wonder if it is going to go into the little petty issues that different denominations deal with..like whether or not one can lose their salvation.  Personally, I don’t believe that is possible.  I don’t like to see God as an indian-giver.  If God gives a person eternal life (John 3:16) than it’s that person’s eternal life…for eternity! God isn’t going to take it away if we murder someone…Being saved means that your slate is wiped clean and you are forgiven for all of your sins. Or is someone gets mad and screams, “I hate you, God! Take my salvation away!” We are human and we act irrationally sometimes, and say stupid things.  God probably just laughs and says something like, “too bad, you’re stuck with me FOR-EV-ER!” Haha.

Well, I have Cultural Anthropology homework to do.  We are studying marriage this week.  I have to pretend that I am a parent who is trying to arrange a marriage for my daughter and I have to fight for the right to be able to do that. This should be interesting! I like how my professor always puts me on the opposite side that I would actually be on.  Gives me a chance to see why this arrangement works for some cultures.

One more thing! How could I forget to write…err..type this when I am sooooo excited about it?!!! I get to go home for, like, 4 months!!!! I am so excited! I can’t wait to eat..something..anything! from Qdoba and Sonic and Chedders and El Nopal!

Bye!
